For Lisa Loeb‘s new album, Lullaby Girl, released Oct. 6 via Amazon Originals, she reinvents classic pop songs such as “Be My Baby,” “In My Room,” “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow” and “What the World Needs Now.”
Also included in the set is Loeb’s soothing, uplifting take on The Five Stairsteps’ 1970s hit, “O-O-H Child.”
“I’m not the first person ever to cover ‘O-O-H Child,’ but it is one of my favorites from the ’70s and I was really excited to approach it within the context of my Lullaby Girl album with my creative collaborator and producer/arranger Larry Goldings,” Loeb tells Billboard. “I feel that the video really looks like this song recording: it’s real, it’s intimate and it’s calming, but it has a good hint of the real energy behind it, like the original recording that inspired it.”

Among her other collaborators on the project are guitarist Adam Levy, drummer Jay Bellarose, bassist Garrettson Lang and co-producer Rich Jacques. Like many of the other songs on the set, the Grammy-nominated artist chose tunes that were recorded for adults, but easily recast themselves as messages to children.
“’O-O-H Child’ was included because we were thinking of kid friendly songs and the lyric really seemed to match that theme,” she says. “It’s another song on the album about how things will be okay and only keep getting better, which is a great way to end the day. This intimate arrangement is a big contrast to the original driving, R&B arrangement.”
Lullaby Girl is Loeb’s third family-oriented release, following Nursery Rhyme Parade! and Feel What U Feel.
